KEEP IT FRESH. KEEP IT SIMPLE
A Practical Guide to Storing Your Coffee Properly
Great coffee starts with great beans—but how you store them makes all the difference. Poor storage can quickly dull flavour, flatten aroma, and waste a quality product. The good news? Keeping your coffee fresh doesn’t require anything complicated. Just a few simple habits.
1. Choose the Right Environment
Store your coffee in a cool, dark, and dry place. A cupboard or pantry is ideal—somewhere stable, away from temperature swings and moisture. Consistency is key to preserving flavour.
2. Keep It Away from Heat
Heat accelerates the breakdown of coffee oils, which are responsible for flavour and aroma. Avoid placing coffee near ovens, radiators, or sunny spots like windowsills or bright countertops.
3. Avoid the Fridge and Freezer
It might seem logical, but refrigeration does more harm than good. Coffee easily absorbs moisture and surrounding odours, which can compromise taste. Freezing is also not recommended for day-to-day use, as repeated temperature changes cause condensation.
4. Use the Right Container
If you’re storing coffee on the counter, that’s perfectly fine—make sure it’s in an opaque, airtight container. This protects it from light, air, and humidity, all of which degrade quality over time.
Bottom line:
Keep your coffee sealed, stable, and away from heat, light, and moisture. Do that well, and every cup you serve will reflect the quality you intended.
